I, like most Americans

"I, like most Americans, believe that oakley vintage the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms," Obama told members of the National Urban League at their annual convention in New Orleans. "I think we recognize the traditions of gun ownership that passed on from generation to generation, that hunting and shooting are part of a cherished national heritage. "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals. That mens oakley sunglasses they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities. I believe the majority of gun owners would agree we should do everything possible to prevent criminals and fugitives from purchasing weapons, and we should check someone's criminal record before they can check out a gun seller." So far, so good. But what the president said next negated the good job. He called for new restrictions to keep guns cheapest price out of the hands of the mentally unstable. Sure, like that's going to happen in a country that cares about sound mental health less than it cares about gun control. And how does one determine at a gun show or in a gun shop or on a Detroit street corner how someone is mentally unstable? I can just see it. A street corner. Low lights. Or broad daylight. "Yo, Pookie! I need a piece." "OK. But did you kill anybody this week? Do you remember your dreams? Is somebody trying to steal your thoughts?" I can see it. A crowded gun show. Children watching. "Hey Fred, let me have that there big 'un!" "OK, Ralph, but first lemme ask you something: You been having any dark thoughts? How's your self-esteem?" Yeah, right. America doesn't have enough primary care doctors to fulfill the mandates of the Affordable Health Care Act, a necessary but poorly planned program that's cheapest price intended to help Americans but doesn't provide all that's needed to do it. So America certainly doesn't have enough psychiatrists to do mental health checks on potential gun owners. That is not what is needed. What is needed is not a gun ban, which will never happen, but a weapons ban: It must be illegal to sell assault weapons to anyone who does not work for the Department of Defense. Unlike tax plans that treat people of different incomes differently, the needed weapons plan is simpler: No assault rifles off the battlefield. Period ray ban 2012 outlet. Four years ago, then-candidate Obama declared at the Democratic National Convention that "the reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than they are for those plagued by gang violence in Cleveland, but don't tell me we can't uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK47s out of the hands of criminals." Say that. No, really, say that now wholesale oakley sunglasses. President Obama, not candidate Obama, has a job to do: prevent the next terrorist attack. That is what happened in Aurora, Colo. A domestic terrorist shot 70 people.

He is in an election year

Christie had been slated to take oakley dispatch the vice chairman's post for several months but recently decided against doing so, according to several governors who attended the association's annual meeting. He cited time constraints, given his current role and planned 2013 reelection campaign, as the reason for his decision. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin (R) was elected vice chairwoman Sunday morning after Christie asked her to take the post, while Delaware Gov. Jack Markell (D) was elected chairman. Under the NGA's bylaws, Fallin is in line to become chairwoman next year as part of a planned annual bipartisan rotation. "He is in an election year. Governor Christie called me and asked if I would move into the vice chairman's slot," Fallin told HuffPost Sunday Get top ray ban special offer this summer SFDG9062. "He will wait for a better time. He is a great leader of the NGA. I was pleased that he offered me the opportunity and he said that there were other things he wanted to take care of in his state." Christie was reelected as a member of the NGA executive committee Sunday and will therefore remain a part of the association's leadership. Also on the executive committee are Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe (D), among others. Markell confirmed that Christie declined based on the amount of time the two leadership positions would take over the next two years. He noted that in addition to Christie's duties in Trenton, he is seeking a second term as governor in 2013 and is currently vice chairman of the Republican Governors Association. "He realized it was the time commitment men oakley sunglasses discount oakley-188, he told me this," Markell said. "Governor Fallin will be great." Christie's spokesman could not be reached for immediate comment. Christie attended parts of the NGA conference here on Saturday, including a closed-door lunch for governors and an RGA reception Saturday night, where he addressed the crowd. He was spotted walking into a closed-door meeting with Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) Saturday afternoon and did not answer questions from reporters. He did not attend Sunday morning's business session. Fallin, who will oversee the NGA's finance committee and Center for Best Practices, said she plans to utilize the vice chairman's role to help promote best practices for state governments and forge a working relationship between the states and the federal government. A former congresswoman, Fallin said there are a variety of common issues the states can focus on, including the impact of federal budget cuts, health care costs, taxes, the federal debt ceiling and the alternative minimum tax. "There are so many big issues going on nationally to build consensus on oakley sunglasses clearance," she said. This is not Fallin's first experience running a national group. During her three terms as Oklahoma's lieutenant governor, she chaired the National Lieutenant Governors Association and the Aerospace States Association. Other governors said they understood Christie's decision to bow out of the NGA role due to time constraints. Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire (D), a former NGA chairwoman, told HuffPost that while the NGA staff handles much of the work involved, she had to put aside time to oversee the association and attend various NGA meetings. http://www.sunglassesshop-buy.com/

The trade group of purchasing managers

Production and exports declined ray ban cheap, and the number of new orders plunged, according to a monthly report released Monday by the Institute for Supply Management. The slowdown comes as U.S. employers have scaled back hiring, consumers have turned more cautious, Europe faces a recession and manufacturing has slowed in big countries like China. "This is not good," said Dan Greenhaus, chief economic strategist at BTIG, an institutional brokerage. Though the report "does not mean recession for the broader economy, it is still a terribly weak number." The trade group of purchasing managers said its index of manufacturing activity fell to 49.7. That's down from 53.5 in May. And it's the lowest reading since July 2009, a month after the Great Recession officially ended. Readings below 50 indicate contraction. Economists said the manufacturing figures were consistent with growth at an annual rate of 1.5 percent or less. That would be down from the wholesale rayban sunglasses January-March quarter's already tepid annual pace of 1.9 percent. "Our forecast that the U.S. will grow by around 2 percent this year is now looking a bit optimistic," said Paul Dales, an economist at Capital Economics. Stocks fell sharply after the report was released at 10 a.m. But investors appeared to shake off the bad manufacturing news by the end of the day. The Dow Jones industrial average recovered most of its early losses to close down just 8.7 points at 12,871. And broader indexes ended the day up. Most economists aren't yet predicting another recession. Though the ISM report suggests manufacturing is contracting, it typically takes a sustained reading below 43 to signal the economy isn't growing. Still, U.S. manufacturing, which has helped drive growth since the recession ended, is faltering at a precarious time. Americans have pulled back on spending, which drives roughly 70 percent of growth. Europe's economy is likely in recession, which has hurt U.S. exports. And China's manufacturing sector grew in June at its slowest pace in seven months, according to a survey released Sunday by the state-affiliated China mac cosmetics online Federation of Logistics and Purchasing. Manufacturing will likely stay weak for the next few months. The ISM's gauge of new orders, a measure of future activity, plunged from 60.1 to 47.8. That's the first time it has fallen below 50 since April 2009, when the economy was still in recession. Fewer new orders reflect growing concerns of businesses. In addition to slower global growth and less spending by U.S. consumers, many companies worry that U.S. lawmakers won't extend a package of tax cuts at the end of the year. Bricklin Dwyer, an economist at BNP Paribas, said the uncertainty "has left businesses unwilling to invest." A gauge of production in the ISM's survey fell to its lowest level in more than three years. U.S. factories are also reporting less overseas demand. A measure of exports dropped to 47.5, its lowest level since April 2009. A gauge of employment edged down but remained at a healthy level of 56.6. That suggests factories may still be adding jobs. Manufacturers have reported job gains for eight straight months. Overall hiring has slowed sharply this spring. Employers added an average of only 73,000 jobs per month in April and May. That's much lower than the average of 226,000 added in the first three months of this year. The unemployment rate rose in May to 8.2 percent fard from 8.1 percent, the first increase in a year. Worries about slowing job growth are outweighing the benefits of lower gas prices. A measure of consumer confidence fell in June for the fourth straight month.
