After winning six of their last seven games

But 11th-seeded North Carolina State’s 66-63 victory over No. 3 Georgetown on Sunday showed that Obama might have been relying burberry ties on more than political guile when he made such a bold prediction about a team that nearly missed making the N.C.A.A. tournament.

“We just want to keep it going,” forward Richard Howell said. “There’s going to be a lot of people jumping on our bandwagon, people that didn’t think we’d be here right now.”

After winning six of their last seven games, the Wolfpack (24-12) are on their way to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2005. They will face the winner of Sunday’s Midwest Region game between No. 2 Kansas and No. 10 Purdue when they get to St. Louis.

Forwards C. J. Leslie and Scott Wood and swingman C. J. Williams each scored 14 points to lead North Carolina State. Yet it was guard Lorenzo Brown, who burberry handbags made three free throws in the final 10.6 seconds, who clinched the win for North Carolina State. After Brown missed the second of two free throws with 4.6 seconds to play, Georgetown guard Jason Clark heaved a 3-pointer that missed as time expired.

North Carolina State sent the Hoyas (24-9) to yet another premature tournament exit. Georgetown has not made it beyond the Round of 32 since 2007, when it reached the Final Four. The Hoyas were also upset by double-digit seeds in 2008, 2010 and 2011.

“We weren’t picked to do anything in the beginning of the season,” Clark said. “Everybody doubted us. But as a group we believed in each other, and we proved a lot of people wrong.”

The Hoyas’ loss represented a rare setback in this tournament for the Big East Conference. On Saturday, the league placed burberry belts three teams into the Round of 16: No. 1 Syracuse in the East and No. 3 Marquette and No. 4 Louisville in the West.

North Carolina State had difficulty scoring, but it balanced the inside play of its talented frontcourt duo, Leslie and Howell, with 46.7 percent shooting from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, the Hoyas had to play without the foul-troubled center Henry Sims, who facilitates their Princeton offense from the paint, for longer than Coach John Thompson III would have liked. The 6-foot-10 Sims had 4 points in 22 minutes.

“We are better when Henry’s on the court, yes,” Thompson said. “But do we have other people that consistently all year have stepped up when he hasn’t been on the court? The answer to that is yes also.”

The loss of Sims, who played six minutes in the first half, made it hard for Georgetown to run its offense as crisply as it wanted. Sims is Georgetown’s assists leader and orchestrates the offense.

Hollis Thompson led the Hoyas with 23 points, making 8 of 15 field-goal attempts.

North Carolina State capitalized on Sims’s absence by collapsing in the lane, making it hard for the Hoyas to penetrate and run their offense, burberry scarves which is predicated on cuts and screens. The Wolfpack forced the Hoyas into 25 attempts from 3-point range.

“We had to really defend them well, which I thought we really did,” Gottfried said. “They had a couple of backdoor plays. They’re going to get some of those. We talked about that; that’s what they do. But they didn’t get very many.”

After an up-and-down season, North Carolina State barely made it into the bracket. The Wolfpack got into the tournament despite a 1-8 record against teams ranked in the top 50 of the Ratings Percentage Index and two losses to teams outside the top 100.

“You never know what to expect in this tournament,” Brown said. “A lot of great teams went down a couple of burberry kids skirts cheap days ago. And we’re just out here playing our best, and Coach is a believer in us, and we believe in ourselves.”

The victory was another highlight in Gottfried’s first season at North Carolina State. He took over after the program, which struggled in five seasons under Sidney Lowe and failed to lure bigger-name coaches like Shaka Smart of Virginia Commonwealth.

Gottfried was hired after a two-year hiatus from coaching, having worked at Murray State and Alabama for 14 seasons. When some Wolfpack players considered transferring after he was hired, Gottfried told them he intended to win immediately. That bore true on Sunday.

After the victory, a message was scribbled burberry bags outlet on the white board in the locker room: “Sweet 16, St. Louis, Mo.” For the Wolfpack, who narrowly made the field of 68, it was a destination that few fans had projected. Except for the president.
